Elden Ring Has Sold Over 20 Million Copies Worldwide

As it reaches its first anniversary, publisher Bandai Namco and developer FromSoftware have announced that Elden Ring has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. This includes physical and digital shipments.

The game, which launched last year on February 25, quickly became FromSoftware’s fastest-selling title. It’s also comfortably its best-selling game to date.

It’s the Best-Selling Game of 2022

From Software’s action RPG has sold over 20 million copies worldwide since it launched on February 25, 2022. This figure includes physical copy shipments and digital downloads on platforms such as Steam.

Launched to critical acclaim, Elden Ring was quickly recognized as one of the best games of 2022. It won Game of the Year at both The Game Awards and Golden Joysticks, and was nominated for a variety of other awards including Best Direction and Art Direction.

It’s been a massive success for the developer, and it’s clear to see why: FromSoftware has created an exciting game that appeals to a wide range of players thanks to its challenging gameplay and open world. It also has a great amount of replayability and tons of content that can be explored in its vast, dark fantasy world.

Moreover, its unique take on the Soulslike genre and a host of awards have made it a hit with fans, as well as with newcomers. In December, FromSoftware released a content update that opened up the Colosseums of Limgrave, Leyndell and Caelid, offering PvP battles in the form of duels, free-for-alls and team fights.

However, it seems that Elden Ring won’t be able to beat Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and finish 2022 as the best-selling premium game in the US in terms of dollar sales. The NPD Group has released its list of the top-selling video games of 2022, and Modern Warfare II leads the pack, according to data based on dollars.

It’s the Best-Selling Game of the Year

From Software’s highly acclaimed action RPG Elden Ring has now sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Publisher Bandai Namco has confirmed that this figure includes both physical shipments and digital sales.

This is the largest sales milestone for a From Software title yet, and comes just days before the game’s one-year anniversary. It’s a huge achievement, and it means that Elden Ring now outsells all other From Software titles by a huge margin.

It took four years for Dark Souls 3 to sell 10 million copies, so it’s incredible that Elden Ring has managed such a feat in such a short amount of time. It also puts Elden Ring right up there with the best-selling titles of all time, such as Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV.

It’s also currently the best-selling game on Steam, beating Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to reclaim the top spot. It’s not going to have any big challenges in the coming months, but it will likely start seeing some serious competition in fall with God of War Ragnarok and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

It’s the Best-Selling Game of All Time

In just one year on shelves, From Software’s open world take on Dark Souls has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. While it may not have matched the sales figures of games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, this is still an impressive feat for a single-player title.

The game’s critical acclaim has also led to sales and awards. Elden Ring won the Game of the Year prize at the The Game Awards 2022 and the New York Game Awards, and it has become a huge hit among gamers across the globe.

However, it’s not yet been crowned the best-selling game of all time and it could struggle to overtake the top of the charts when the year comes to a close. According to NPD’s Mat Piscatella, it currently ranks as the tenth best-selling premium games in the US market all-time (dollar sales).

In order to qualify as a “premium game,” according to NPD, it must have an upfront purchase price and exclude DLC and microtransactions. As a result, it’s unlikely that it will be able to break into the top 10 this year and it’s more likely that it will remain a mid-to-low-ranking title. Nevertheless, it’s still an amazing achievement for From Software and Bandai Namco to have a game this popular.
