Mortal Kombat 12 Confirmed by Warner Bros.

During a recent earnings call, Warner Bros. has confirmed Mortal Kombat 12 for a 2023 release.

There was no fanfare accompanying the announcement, but it is a very exciting development that confirms the latest title in NetherRealm Studios’ popular fighting franchise.

The game has been rumored for years now, with NetherRealm’s studio head, Ed Boon, teasing it on Twitter a few months ago. Then, in June, a voice actor for Johnny Cage tweeted a video of himself at the Warner Bros. parking lot, causing many fans to believe a new title was in development.

Scheduled for 2023 Release

Mortal Kombat is a video game franchise that started out in 1992 and has since gone on to become one of the most popular and successful fighting game series. The game has spawned numerous sequels, an animated TV series, live-action movies, and more.

According to a recent earnings call, the long-rumored Mortal Kombat 12 is officially in development and will release sometime in 2023. Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav casually mentioned the title on his company’s latest earnings call and stated that it is amongst games slated for release this year with ambitious launch projections.

While the 2023 release date is interesting, it’s worth noting that it’s not necessarily a firm indicator of when the game will release. Q4 of the 2023 fiscal year in gaming typically ends on March 31, so MK12 may not be released until later in the year, especially considering that the last three major releases for the MK series have all been released in April.

Featuring New Characters

Mortal Kombat is a series of video games, movies, and comic books that have become one of the world’s top-selling fighting game franchises. It began as an arcade game in 1991, spawning several sequels and a number of spin-offs.

In addition to its storied cast of characters, Mortal Kombat has also featured a number of guest characters. These include ’80s action heroes, horror icons, and DC’s Joker.

The roster has also been expanded through the addition of new fighters. These include the ’80s masked vigilante Freddy Krueger, a hulking Jason Voorhees from the ‘Elm Street’ movie franchise, and a reimagined Leatherface.

While the roster isn’t exactly set in stone, a number of fans have speculated that NetherRealm Studios will introduce a variety of characters that haven’t appeared before in the series. One character that has a strong possibility of making an appearance is Nitara, the vampire heroine from the 2021 live-action Mortal Kombat movie.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios

NetherRealm Studios is the development team behind Mortal Kombat and Injustice games. The company was founded by series creator Ed Boon and is based in Chicago, Illinois.

Mortal Kombat is a fighting game franchise that has been around for over 20 years and has sold over 76 million videogame units worldwide. The latest entry, Mortal Kombat 11, launched back in 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch.

However, rumors have circulated that Mortal Kombat 12 may be in the works, and it’s now been confirmed by Warner Bros. During a recent earnings call for WB Games, Mortal Kombat 12 was confirmed as in development and set for release in 2023.

This confirms the long-rumored Mortal Kombat 12 and it’s a great sign that the series is returning to its usual release cycle of a new game every two years. We expect NetherRealm to announce the title at a digital event like State of Play or Summer Games Fest in June and show gameplay at E3 2023.

Powered by Unreal Engine

If you have played Mortal Kombat 11 or Injustice 2 before, you know that NetherRealm Studios has a history of pushing the envelope with cinematic visuals. The team delivers some of the most jaw-dropping fight scenes in the series on PS4 and Xbox One, and even the Switch.

This latest entry in the franchise is no exception. It features a new story, new game modes, and enhanced graphics.

As for gameplay, it’s a 2.5D fighting game where each fighter has a unique fighting style and can use special moves called “brutalities” or “finishing moves.” They can also choose their own “friendships” with other characters to help them in the match.

As a bonus, the game also has some interesting little secrets and Easter eggs hidden within its code. We’ve put together a guide to help you find all of them, including some cool AI difficulty tuning and a free currency bundle for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC players.
